Yatseniuk: Government has created energy crisis headquarters

The Ukrainian Government has set up an energy crisis headquarters whose mission is to assure the balance of the energy resources, the balance of consumption and spending and the energy efficiency, Government Portal says referring to the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk Tuesday, June 17, Parliament report.
The Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister-Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Volodymyr Groisman has been appointed the Head of the energy crisis headquarters; the Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan has been appointed the Deputy Chairman.
«The task of the Headquarters is to assure the balance of the energy resources, the balance of consumption and spending and the energy efficiency,» said Yatseniuk.
«We will never be able to get off the needle of dependence on the Russian gas if we continue to spend our energy resources in the way we have been spending them for over 20 years. Otherwise we will have to pay to RF once again US$20 milliard still within next 5 years and will never reach our goal - the real energy efficiency,» Yatseniuk stressed.
So, Yatseniuk said the Government’s task is to reduce Ukrainian domestic gas consumption.
«The less gas population and industry consumes, the less they pay for it,» he admitted.
Besides, Yatseniuk also said the Government, on Jun 18 meeting, will examine a draft Law about introduction of the emergency state in the domestic energy sector.
«We are to be ready for the most difficult circumstances. Therefore, the procedure of the emergency state introduction on the energy market as well as the control mechanisms and the mechanisms of the energy efficiency are to be reflected in the Law, and the Government must have some levers to influence the country energy sector,» the Prime Minister stressed.
