PM: Plan to develop small generation facilities to reduce vulnerability to terrorism

It is planned to estblish hundreds of small generation facilities that will be less vulnerable to Russian terrorism, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said during a roundtable discussion on the state of the energy sector and preparations for the heating season. The discussion was attended by the U.S. delegation led by Deputy National Security Advisor Jonathan Finer, as well as Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko, Acting Minister of Community, Territory and Infrastructure Development Vasyl Shkurakov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba, heads of energy companies and heads of regional military administrations. «The state of the energy sector is one of the biggest challenges for Ukraine after security and defense. Since the first days of the war, Russia has been attacking our energy facilities. Since the end of March, we have lost more than 9 GW of installed capacity. Now Ukraine is doing everything possible to compensate for these losses and prepare for the winter,» the prime minister said. In the Telegram channel, he said special attention was focused on three key areas in which the government and local authorities are currently working: restoration and repair of everything that can be restored; accumulation of assistance from international partners; construction of a decentralized generation system. Shmyhal said it is planned to create hundreds of small generation facilities that will be less vulnerable to Russian terrorism. The prime minister said special attention was paid to the needs of Ukraine after enemy shelling. «We discussed our needs separately. Unfortunately, they are significant. After the latest enemy attacks, the intensity of assistance should be increased many times over. We are grateful to the United States for announcing new funding for energy assistance in the amount of $500 million in addition to the $324 million previously announced. These funds will be used for Ukraine’s energy needs,» he said. The prime minister also expressed gratitude to the presidential administration and the U. S.
