Brazil urged to show "passion" at FIFA World Cup

The people of Brazil have been urged by a top UN official to demonstrate their «passion» for football as the country prepares for the month-long FIFA World Cup, UN Radio says referring to the Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke report.
The world’s biggest international sport competition is getting underway on Thursday against a backdrop of civil demonstrations against the government.
Mr. Lemke said he’s pleased the World Cup is being held in Brazil.
«Show us the passion of your people for football. When I first heard some years ago that Brazil will be the host, I jumped into the air because I was so happy, because this I would call the motherland of football,» Mr. Lemke emphasized.
