President: Ukraine will increase domestic gas production

15.02.2013 17:36 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Ukraine will increase domestic gas production. It was stated by the President at the meeting with candidates for the posts of heads of DSA, President Viktor Yanukovych Press Office reports. «We started to reduce gas consumption, replace it with other energy sources and increase domestic gas production. It is the only way and we chose it,» the Head of State noted. «Why are we doing this? Because we are protecting ourselves and our economy,» he stressed. Viktor Yanukovych emphasized that the gas price for Ukraine was too expensive. «We pay the biggest price for gas in the world. If we put this price in the cost of our products our companies will be uncompetitive. Our products will not find markets,» the President said. The Head of State stressed that Ukraine was implementing a number of projects in order to replace gas with domestic coal. «We started to replace gas with coal and coal blends. We removed gas from power industry. We nearly removed gas from metallurgical industry. This year, we will begin construction of the production of synthetic gas from coal,» Viktor Yanukovych noted. He added that in that context Ukraine had significantly increased the volume of coal production.
