Azarov: FTA agreement with CIS in line with Ukraine's interests

06.08.2012 09:42 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — The free trade area agreement with the CIS is not perfect, but it takes into account the interests of Ukraine, Premier Mykola Azarov said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on last week Friday. «The agreement is not perfect, it has items that don’t suit us, I said this in October following the signing of this agreement. But it takes into account our interests, settles the problem of development of our economy, and due to this fact this agreement is positive,» he said. The premier also said that it is a usual case when one of items of the agreement foresees sanctions for the CIS member states if one of the parties of the agreement creates a similar free trade area with other countries. «It’s quite normal, no matter whether this is written in the agreement or not. If one of the parties of a multilateral agreement forms relations with other partners that create an inconvenient trade regime for the CIS countries, then naturally consultations have to be held,» Azarov said.
