21.06.2012 14:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
EURO 2012 will not increase the number of foreign tourists in Ukraine, but will improve the image of the state in the West, say experts with CFC Consulting, an international company that developed Ukraines image strategy for EURO 2012, Radio Free Europe reports.
«Investing in the development of tourism and transport infrastructure has a long-term effect, the results will be visible after some time. But the positive experience of hundreds of thousands of fans and journalists during EURO will improve the image of Ukraine in the West,» the companys partner Vasyl Miroshnychenko told Radio Free Europe. «Before EURO 2012, we have had quite a large amount of negativity in the press. We have had low expectations of many who were to come here and, accordingly, these low expectations, when tourists, fans come, have not materialized. They saw another country, a friendly attitude towards them. People want to discover Ukraine. The very fact of this championship is a tremendous positive effect,» the expert believes. Meanwhile, the consulting firm Trendscope polled tourism operators and managers in the tourism sector in Ukraine and EU countries on improving the image of Ukraine in the European tourist market. According to the survey, 68% of respondents believe that EURO 2012 will not make Ukraine more attractive for tourism. More than 80% of tourism industry workers also emphasized that Ukraine and Poland are suffering from a common problem: like the countries of Eastern Europe, they mainly have a negative image.
