Ukraine's agrarian sector can produce over 5 mn tons of light oil per year

Ukraine’s agrarian sector will be able to ensure almost half of the country’s domestic need for light petroleum products, producing over five million tons of light petroleum products per year, Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.
«We are almost 100% dependent on imports of light petroleum products, buying 11 million tons of them each year. At the same time, our agricultural industry can provide five million tons of light petroleum products. Today we, together with the Fuel and Energy Ministry, are finalizing a draft law regarding the compulsory use of light petroleum products and certain benefits and motivators for the development of this area,» Prysiazhniuk said. Restrictions on export of Ukrainian sugar to the Customs Union countries and an increase in the production of sugar beets last year triggered an excess of these products, the minister said. He noted that the problem should be resolved through the expansion of markets and the search for new forms of recycling, one of which is biofuel production."Now we are completing negotiations with Bangladesh and other countries regarding the sale of sugar. We also plan to reduce imports and use sugar substitutes, since it harms not only the sugar industry, but also public health. In addition, one of the promising areas for the agricultural sector is the production of biofuels, including those from sugar beets," Prysiazhniuk said. As reported, Prysiazhniuk recently made a working visit to Washington, where he held a meeting at the U. S. Department of Agriculture, where, among other issues, the sides discussed prospects for biofuel production.
