Pakistan. The 2021/22 rice production forecast is reduced to 7.9 million tons
30.09.2021 13:05 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Following are selected highlights from a report issued by a U. S. Department of Agriculture attache in The Islamabad, the 2021/22 rice production forecast is reduced from 8.2 to 7.9 million tons due to lower-than-average monsoon rains. The rice export estimate for the current marketing year and the forecast for 2021/22 are both lowered due to a shortage of shipping containers, high freight rates, and stiff competition from India. The wheat supply and demand numbers are unchanged. Wheat imports have totaled only 57,000 tons so far this current marketing year, but imports are expected to accelerate in coming months as the Government seeks to replenish stocks.
