FAO, Cabo Verde strengthen partnership

As of this week, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General Qu Dongyu met with José Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, to explore ways to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between Cabo Verde and the Organization, FAO reports.
It is to be admitted, it has been the third meeting between the Director-General and the Prime Minister, who had already met at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7), as of Aug 2019, and at the United Nations General Assembly as of Sept 2019 (within New York).
As to the report, within the meeting, the Director-General stressed the importance of initiatives focused on empowering women and youth and noted the progress made to date with the establishment of Youth and Women Committees at FAO. The Prime Minister commended Qu’s vision and highlighted the strong need to focus on and support women.
In their talks, the parties discussed the Organization new Hand-in-Hand Initiative and the way to translate it into concrete action.
They also committed to further strengthening the long-lasting collaboration between FAO and Cabo Verde, with a particular focus on aquaculture.
