Portugal sugar consumption down

As to PNPAS (Portugal National Program for Healthy Nutrition Promotion) data, the Portgal population has declined its sugar consumption by 1.1 kg annually thanks to the tax on the sugar soda water and other high-sugar drinks (introduced within 2017), Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the EuroPuls report.
Thus, as of 2018, each average Portuguese citizen consumed 60 liters of sugar soda water (or 3.3 kg sugar), as of 2017 - 75 liters (4.4 kg sugar).
As of now, the Portuguese population has not only reduced its sugar soda water, but also started choosing the sugar soda water brands containing less sugar: thus, as of 2018, every 100 ml of sugar soda water contained 26.4 calories (as of 2016 - 31).
It is to be admitted, the Porugese authorities initially decided to introduce the tax on the sugar soda water and in order to reduce its consumption by the country children and adolescents. However, now 40% of the Porugese teens drink the sugar saoda water as well as other sugar drinks.
In meanwhile, the Porugese authorities is going to continue its policy of domestic correct nutrition support.
