Ukraine, RF signed protocol on Azov Sea fishing

As of this week, Ukraine and the Russian Federation have signed, through diplomatic channels, a protocol on quotas for the industrial fishing within the Sea of Azov, Interfax-Ukraine says referring to the Ukrainian State Fishery Agency report.
«After having conducted long-lasting consultations with corresponding executive authorities, we have decided to send the protocol for signature to the RF side through diplomatic channels so that the Ukrainian fishermen could continue to harvest aquatic biological resources within the Sea of Azov within the legal framework … the protocol was signed through diplomatic channels,» Ukrainian State Fishery Agency Head Yaroslav Belov admits.
As to him, the protocol also stipulates the issue of the transfer of the detained fishermen, if any, to their country of citizenship. So, this document is also aimed to boost the level of safety of the Ukrainian fishermen within their economic activity process.
Besides, the protocol also provides for the distribution of the Azov Sea pigfish catch quotas: 9,000 tons for Ukraine and 6,000 tons for RF.
It is to be admitted, presently in total about 90 Ukrainian companies operate within the Azov Sea. As of 2018, Ukraine caught in total 21,300 tons of aquatic biological resources within the Azov Sea.
