China to exempt some Brazilian chicken imports from tariffs
18.02.2019 09:23 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
China will exempt 14 Brazilian firms including BRF and JBS Group from anti-dumping tariffs on import of chicken products, provided sales are made above an undisclosed floor price, Reuters reports.
As to the report, the exemptions follow months of negotiations between Brazilian chicken producers and China, as Brazil sought to resolve an anti-dumping probe launched as of Aug 2017.
Reportedly, Brazil is the world top exporter of chicken and the biggest overseas shipper to China.
It is to be reminded, a preliminary determination made last year JUn had placed duties as much as 18.8%-38.4% on all Chinese import of Brazilian broiler chickens.
Under a final decision issued by the Chinese Commerce Ministry as of last week Fri, Beijing will maintain tariffs 17.8%-32.4% since this year Feb 17 for five years.
However, at same time, a list of companies will be excluded from the tariffs as part of a «price undertaking» agreed between the two sides (and reported by Reuters last month). The agreement set minimum prices for sales to China, but those were not published.
It is to be admitted, Brazil mainly exports chicken feet, legs and wings to China, products that are in high demand on the Chinese domestic market.
