Spain becomes oranges cultivation European leader

As of now, Spain produces over 50% of the EU total oranges’ crop, UNIAN says referring to the Ukrayinska Pravda report.
«As of 2017, Spain harvested 3.4 million tons of oranges (from the EU total 6.2 million tons). The European second biggest producer is Italy (1.5 million tons); third - Greece (1 million tons). The EU orange orchards cover in total 270,000 ha,» the report reads.
As to the report, as of 2017, the EU countries have exported almost 2.7 million tons of oranges (for EUR2 billion), with 90% of them having been exported from one EU country to another. It is to be admitted, Spain is the biggest exporter (1.6 million tons).
Reportedly, as of 2017, the EU countries oranges’ import was very low (just 1.1 million tons) against their oranges’ export (the oranges were imported mainly from South Africa and Egypt).
