Indian 2019/2020 MY sugar output to decline due to sugar cane planting difficulties

As of now, many representatives of the Indian sugar industry and traders affirm that within the 2019/2020 MY the country sugar output may decline due to the domestic agrarians having difficulties with the sugar cane planting (due to the Indian two leading sugar producing states having been struck with drought), Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to the Reuters report.
«Many agrarians within he states of Maharashtra and Karnataka could not plant sugar cane within this year due to the water deficit. That will affect their sugar output next year,» Prakash Nyknavar, Managing Director of the Indian National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Plants, says.
As to Nyknavar, within 2019–2020 MY the Indian sugar output can fall to 28–29 million tons, down against earlier expected 31.5–32 million tons.
