FAO Chief urges ‘transformative changes’ to how we eat

05.12.2018 19:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of this week, the the FAO Council 160th session has started within Rome; the session will last till Dec 7, UN Radio reports. As to the report, the session includes various side events launched to highlight the FAO work, incl. the World Soil Day 2018 celebration (marked Dec 5) to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources worldwide. As to the report, while speaking within a ceremonial opening, José Graziano da Silva, FAO Director-General, has said the obesity affects millions of people, and several milliards suffer from diseases caused by vitamin- or mineral-deficient diets, known as micronutrient deficiencies. He urged people worldwide for «transformative changes» within their food systems. «The international community needs to urgently address this situation by promoting transformative change in our food systems,» he stressed. As to the report, da Silva admitted that the global Zero Hunger Goal is not just about feeding people but also providing everyone with all the necessary nutrients for a healthy life.
