UN: CO2 emissions up firstly within 4
28.11.2018 19:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of 2017, the global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions rose again after a three year hiatus, UN Radio says referring to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) new report.
It is to be admitted, the report urges all the countries to cling to the historic Paris Agreement obligations and keep global warming below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.
The report has appeared just days before the key UN climate change conference known as COP 24 (to be held within Katowice, Poland). The UNEP urges the countries to triple their efforts to curb harmful emissions.
It is to be mentioned, the UNEP report comes hot on the heels of the watershed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on global warming, released this year Oct, which cautioned that emissions had to stop rising now, in order to keep temperature increases below 1.5°C, and reduce the risks for the well-being of the planet and its people.
«The the IPCC report represented a global fire alarm, but this UNEP report is the arson investigation,» UNEP Deputy Executive Director Joyce Msuya admits. «The science is clear; for all the ambitious climate action we’ve seen governments need to move faster and with greater urgency. We’re feeding this fire while the means to extinguish it are within reach,» she added.
