India interested to import Ukrainian apples

As of now, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food and the Indian Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare are working on the topic of Ukraine to be put on the list of exporting countries of certain types of fruits/berries to India. In part., it goes about the Ukrainian apples’ export, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reports.
As to the report, these efforts are supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of India and the Ukrainian State Service for Foods Safety and Consumer Protection.
«As of recent, we have received an official letter from our Indian colleagues as for the trial shipments of 8 to 9 export lots of Ukrainian apples to the Indian market, but under the condition of these shipments’ compliance with certain requirements,» Olga Trofimtseva, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food on European Integration, admits.
As to her, the Indian Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has announced two mandatory conditions for the export of a pilot lot of the Ukrainian apples to the Indian market. The first condition is sticking to a certain temperature regime within the period of the pre-shipment refrigeration. Second, this procedure must be confirmed by the corresponding phytosanitary certificates issued by the competent authority of the country of origin or re-export.
«I emphasize that now, with the support of the Ukrainian Embassy within India, a dialogue continues with the Indian competent authority to determine the list of quarantine organisms that are prohibited to be imported to India. Only after receiving full information on the phytosanitary requirements of India will it be possible to say that the export of Ukrainian apples to the country is open. Information on phytosanitary requirements for the Ukrainian apples exported to India will be posted on the Ukrainian State Service for Foods Safety and Consumer Protection website,» Trofimtseva summed up.
