As of Apr, Food Price Index falls due to "robust supplies"

Global food this year Apr prices fell due to «robust» supplies of many food articles such as sugar and vegetable oils, UN Radio reports referring to the FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) this year Apr Food Price Index.
As to the Index, this year Apr total food prices have dipped 1.8% against this year Mar (although up 10% against last year Apr).
It is to be admitted, the Index tracks international market prices of five major food groups.
As to the report, this year Apr vegetable oil prices fell almost 4% against this year Mar due to weakening demand for palm oil and the expectation of «bumper harvests» in the Americas.
Sugar prices fell almost 10% against this year Mar due to a glut in exports from Brazil combined with weak demand across the world.
As to the report, meat prices were the only group registering a rise in price, climbing 1.7% against this year Mar due to strong demand in Europe and China.
