World Humanitarian Summit: Turn commitment into action

25.05.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of yesterday, while speaking at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Adama Dieng, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Genocide, said commitments made by governments attending the Summit should be translated into action, UN Radio reports. As to the report, Mr. Dieng admitted his discussions at the World Humanitarian Summit focused on respect for human rights and international humanitarian law. He stressed global crises had generated millions of refugees and migrants, and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. Also, he pointed out that women and children are the first victims of crisis. «I only hope that the numerous commitments made by member states are genuine. I only hope that those who have spoken will translate into action their speeches, which means that they will ensure that the international humanitarian law is respected, that they will respect it and also ensure that all the parties will respect it,» Mr. Dieng emphasized. Also, Mr. Dieng expressed hope that the world would become a more peaceful place, but only if countries translate this idea into action.
