As of yesterday, while speaking in the Austrian parliament in Vienna, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told that the international community has a «moral, legal and political obligation» to help people fleeing war, human rights abuses and persecution, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ban also told that throughout his service as UN Secretary-General, he had made a point of listening to people on the «frontlines of human suffering.»
He said he was particularly concerned with the well-being of children who are fleeing war.
«I am especially touched by the children who have been forced to flee their homes. They reminded me of when I was just a six-year old boy after the Korean War. My family, my parents, had to flee to the remote mountains during the Korean War. Todays refugee children are caught up in the biggest displacement crisis of our era,» Ban stressed.
As to the report, Ban reminded leaders around the world and especially in Europe, that they have a «moral, legal and political obligation» to help people fleeing war, human rights abuses and persecution.
