President at Taras Shevchenko National Prize awarding ceremony: Culture is a basis for social consolidation

As of today, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has
awarded the Taras Shevchenko National Prizes of Ukraine. The Head of State emphasized that culture was a basis for social consolidation, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«Our response to all present threats should be based on the unity of the Ukrainian nation aimed at the establishment of a sovereign, independent, democratic Ukraine,» Poroshenko said.
As to the report, Poroshenko noted that the potential of culture must be efficiently used for the implementation of reforms, confrontation with the Russian aggressor and reintegration of the occupied territories into the Ukrainian humanitarian space.
As to Poroshenko, he believes the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine should become a platform for the reformation of Ukraine’s cultural policy. «The National Prize is a state award of Ukraine. We should modernize these procedures and increase confidence in the competition for the public to pay attention to the contestants and for this interest to influence our national cultural environment,» he said.
As to the report, Poroshenko noted that the award-winning art should decently represent the Ukrainian culture in the European and global cultural environment as its integral and distinctive component.
Reportedly, the Taras Shevchenko National Prizes were awarded to painter Mykhailo Guida, publicist Levko Lukyanenko, ballet master Radu Poklitaru, director Oleg Sentsov and artist Angelina Shvachka.
