Ukraine, Slovakia to coordinate efforts on European reforms

As of yesterday, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák who was on a working visit to Ukraine, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, the parties shared opinions on the important bilateral issues and international agenda, particularly the security situation and the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The President emphasized the importance of international unity and solidarity with Ukraine on the necessity of full implementation of the Minsk agreements and prolongation of sanctions against Russia.
Reportedly, Poroshenko also expressed gratitude to Slovakia for supporting Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the amount of EUR2.9 million.
As to the report, the parties discussed energy security as well. The President thanked Slovakia for increasing the volume of reverse gas supply to Ukraine. «The first winter without Russian gas has passed. We reduced consumption by 21% in comparison to the last year. We introduce energy diversification and energy independence,» Poroshenko noted.
The interlocutors emphasized the inadmissibility of the Nord Stream II project.
As to the report, a special attention was paid to the algorithm of interaction of the two countries on the European integration in the context of Slovakia’s presidency in the EU within the 2016 second half.
The parties noted the importance of opening joint checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Slovakian border. It will simplify the border-crossing procedure.
Also, the Foreign Minister of Slovakia expressed support for the introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens by the EU.
Miroslav Lajčák noted that his country was willing to help Ukraine on the track of European transformations.
