UNICEF: About US$3 milliard needed to help children in need worldwide
26.01.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
An appeal for nearly US$3 milliard to help children in humanitarian emergencies worldwide has been launched by the UNICEF (UN Childrens Fund), UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, presently about 43 million children around the globe are in need of help.
As to the report, the bulk of the money being requested will go toward education needs.
Reportedly, for the first time ever, the largest portion of the appeal, 25%, will be devoted to educating children in emergencies.
UNICEF plans to dramatically increase the number of children in crises that have access to education from 4.9 million at of early 2015 to 8.2 million within 2016.
Over half of that target, about 5 million children, will be Syrian.
As to the report, the UNICEF calls education a «life-saving measure» that gives kids a chance to «learn and play, amidst the carnage of gunfire and grenades».
The twin drivers of conflict and extreme weather has resulted in more and more children fleeing their homes. As a result, UNICEF says its annual appeal has doubled over the last three years.
It is to be admitted, presently one in nine of the worlds children live in a conflict zone, with millions more living under the cloud of extreme weather events.
