"Fairly disappointing" unemployment forecast for next two years
20.01.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
High unemployment rates will continue to prevail in 2016 worldwide, UN Radio says referring to the ILO (International Labour Organization) report.
As to the report, over 197 million people worldwide were jobless in 2015 (up 27 million against the period before the 2008 economic crisis).
It is to be admitted, experts have already named the report «a fairly disappointing outlook.»
As to the report, unemployment all over the globe will rise to 199.4 million this year.
A further 1.1 million people are also forecasted to join the ranks of the jobless in 2017.
It is to be admitted, the ILO Director-General Guy Ryder says even among those working many are still poor.
«There are 327 million people working but remaining in extreme poverty. And add to that a further, an additional, 434 million in moderate poverty: working, but in moderate poverty; and a further 553 million in near poverty. And you will see that regrettably, the fact of actually being at work does not for many people in the world guarantee an escape from poverty,» Ryder says.
Ryder emphasizes the challenge is to ensure that jobs do indeed provide decent work.
Ryder also calls for more focus on social protection schemes and on those who are disadvantaged when it comes to looking for a job, such as young people, women, people with disabilities, older workers and the long-term unemployed.
