Yatseniuk calls on Parliament to provide an opportunity to hold fair, transparent and competitive privatization

As of today, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has appealed to the Parliament to reconsider the draft amendments to the laws on privatization and adopt a corresponding bill, Government Portal reports.
«Privatization under the current legislation is a scheme designed to steal facilities, not to sell them publicly. Just let the Government hold fair, transparent and competitive privatization,» Yatseniuk said.
Fair and transparent privatization, the PM underlined, should be carried out «not on the basis of who is closer to a political party, but on the principle who out of foreign investors will give more, be able to bring new technology, create more jobs and pay more taxes in Ukraine.»
As to the report, Yatseniuk reminded that presently the privatization of Odesa Portside Plant and other facilities had been stopped due to the fact that «under the current legislation this scheme stipulates how to steal these plants, but not to sell them publicly.»
«We urge to accelerate the adoption of these bills and to allow the Government to carry out the same privatization of the key facilities as it was held with Kryvorizhstal,» he stressed.
Foreign investors are looking forward to the adoption of appropriate legislation, Arseniy Yatseniuk pointed out.
«In particular, it will give the Government the opportunity to increase the level of corporate governance in the state-owned companies as well as to get rid of political influence on the management of the State-owned companies,» he emphasized.
