President at International Anti-Corruption Conference: We will not ensure efficiency of reforms without active participation of society

As of today, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has taken part in the International Anti-Corruption Conference «Prevent. Fight. Act» in Kyiv. The President is confident that for successful development of State and attraction of investors, Ukraine should demonstrate efficient efforts on ensuring peace and effective struggle against corruption, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«We will not be able to ensure the efficiency of reforms without active participation of society,» the President emphasized.
As to the Head of State, the first anti-corruption reforms’ phase is now almost fulfilled - that is, creation of an institutional and legislative support for the struggle against corruption. «We have sharpened the axe already. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau will now play the key role and bear the main responsibility,» Poroshenko said.
As to the report, the President noted that a number of highly esteemed civic persons had already chosen the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau via open, transparent and highly competitive contest. In the same way, on the basis of state-of-the-art professional and psychological tests, they’ve been choosing detectives from 140 trained officials who are waiting for the specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution to start the process.
As to the President, the formation of the specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution is held transparently as well. Thus, 9 out of 11 members of specialized contest commission represent NGOs and only 2 persons are prosecutors. «The rest are public figures: lawyer, ATO hero, representative of our partners from the USA with experience in prosecution, human rights activist, political analyst,» the President said noting that the given composition would guarantee objectivity, impartiality and renewability.
As to the report, the President stressed that radical changes were taking place in all spheres where citizens meet with government officials, from district inspectors to administrative service centers.
«Significant part of bureaucracy must be eliminated,» Poroshenko noted. He also highlighted the efficiency of electronic procurement system and e-governance in the struggle against corruption.
