Poroshenko: People have chosen democratic forces and supported path of reforms at these elections

26.10.2015 17:59 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of today, while speaking within the joint press availability with the US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko admitted that the Ukrainian local elections of Oct were characterized with the vast majority of voters having had supported democratic forces, thus providing an opportunity to create pro-Ukrainian coalitions in local councils and continue the reformation of the country, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports. As to the report, the Head of State called it important that despite certain predictions, the revenge of non-democratic forces hadn’t taken place. The President noted that the responsibility of Ukrainian nation paved the way to reforms. «The responsibility of voters lets us continue reforms. I consider it a support for reforms, decentralization and increase of powers and responsibility of local councils. I am glad that the majority of voters supported these approaches,» Poroshenko emphasized. As to the report, the President called non-holding of elections in Mariupol unacceptable. He suggested that the Parliament make amendments to the legislation in order to ensure free expression of will in cities like Mariupol, Krasnoarmiysk etc. «We should make amendments to the electoral law that will ensure the electoral process and prevent electoral mistakes,» the Head of State stressed. As to him, it is particularly important in the context of the return of the Ukrainian authorities in the occupied part of Donbas. «The only way to do this is to hold democratic elections,» the President concluded. Also, Petro Poroshenko thanked all voters for «letting the country ensure high level of electoral culture despite extremely difficult conditions and numerous challenges».
