Unique events planned to mark UN's 70th anniversary

20.10.2015 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — This week Sat, Oct 24, is the UN Day. The organization will celebrate its 7th decade with a series of events that will criss-cross the globe. Music, art and a first-of-its-kind lightshow are being planned around the world to mark 70 years since the founding of the United Nations, UN Radio reports. As to the report, the events marking 70 year since the founding of the United Nations will kick off on this week Frid night, with a concert in the UN’s General Assembly Hall in New York City, featuring an array of global musicians. Reportedly, later that evening, the main UN headquarters will be bathed in blue lights. Cristina Gallach, the Head of the UN Department of Public Information, says that’s just the beginning of the worldwide celebration. «Two hundred of the outstanding landmarks around the world, in over 60 countries worldwide have agreed to be ’turned blue’,» Cristina Gallach admits. They include the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Pyramids in Egypt, Table Mountain in South Africa and Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, to name just a few. A piece of art called «Enlightened Universe» will also be unveiled on UN Day: it’s a planet surrounded by 70 human figures that are holding hands. This artwork is to be initially installed in the Central Park in New York City and eventually travel to different cities around the world.
