Ukrainian President awarded Order of Freedom to Jose Manual Barroso

As of yesterday, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with the former President of the European Commission (2004–2014) Jose Manual Barroso. The Head of State awarded the Order of Freedom to Jose Manual Barroso for his significant contribution to the reinforcement of Ukraine’s authority in the world, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, Poroshenko noted the prominent personal role of Jose Manuel Barroso in ensuring the unity and solidarity of the European Union with Ukraine and creating the pro-Ukrainian international coalition.
Reportedly, the President stressed that it helped save our country in the face of Russian aggression.
«We are fighting not only for our independence, we are fighting for freedom and democracy as the basic European values,» he said.
As to the report, Poroshenko and Barroso warmly recalled the events of Jun 2014, when the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU had been signed in Brussels.
As to the report, Barroso stated: «Europe wants to help Ukraine». He commended the achievements of Petro Poroshenko at the post of President noting the difficulty of challenges and threats, which Ukraine has to face. «The level of confidence established in the European structures in respect of Ukraine is very important,» he said.
«You can consider me as a friend of Ukraine,» Barroso admitted and promised to further assist Ukraine on the European track.
It is to be mentioned, Jose Manuel Barroso arrived in Kyiv to participate in the 12th Yalta European Strategy Annual Meeting.
