Poland to grant EUR100 million to Ukraine for construction of border infrastructure and checkpoints on Ukrainian-Polish border

As of today, within an official visit to Warsaw, the Ukrainian Governmental delegation has signed an intergovernmental agreement due to which Poland provides a tied government loan to Ukraine of EUR100 million, which, in particular, stipulates funds to finance projects designed to develop border infrastructure and equip border checkpoints at the Ukrainian-Polish frontier, Government Portal reports.
As to the report, the deal between the Ukrainian Cabinet and the Government of the Republic of Poland was signed by the Ukrainian Minister of Finance Natalie Jaresko and the Polish Minister of Finance Mateusz Szczurek in the presence of Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Poland.
Reportedly, following his meeting with the Prime Minister of Poland Ewa Kopacz, the The Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk told that this deal is a significant step to support Ukraine.
As to the Head of Ukrainian Government, the document contains that the loan facility is granted to Ukraine for 30 years at 0.15% interest.
As to the report, the Ukrainian PM explained the funds are to be spent to construct 8 checkpoints along the longest eastern border of the European Union.
«In general, this will affect 8 million citizens on both sides. The traffic on these checkpoints equals 50 thousand people, 15 thousand passenger cars and 2 thousand trucks daily,» he said.
«60% of the money will be directed to construct roads at these checkpoints, 40% of the sum will go to develop infrastructure,» Yatseniuk explained.
Besides, Yatseniuk also added that the Polish business demonstrated readiness to engage in the construction of the Ukrainian checkpoints.
