Ukraine-Japan agreement to promote development of promising areas of investment cooperation

As of today, an agreement on promotion and protection of investment between Ukraine and Japan has been signed, Government Portal reports.
As to the report, the agreement is expected to facilitate the development of promising areas of investment cooperation, trigger foreign investment and technology, reduce non-commercial risks facing by foreign investors and help consolidate a positive image of Ukraine as a country with a favorable investment climate in the international arena.
Reportedly, the Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development and Trade Aivaras Abromavicius, who signed the document from the Ukrainian side, said that signing of the agreement will be an important signal to Japanese and other foreign investors that money invested into Ukraine will be out of danger.
«Signing of the agreement provides a powerful signal to investors that their rights will be protected at the international level,» Abromavicius said.
He also added that now there are opportunities for investors to come and gain a foothold in the Ukrainian market at quite low competition, which could then bring good profits.
«Thanks to the signing of the agreement, it is expected to increase transparency of the investment climate in the country, as well as to attract and protect Japanese investment. This document is one of the elements of Japans assistance aimed at improving the economic situation in Ukraine,» the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumy, who signed the agreement from the Japanese side, admitted.
