Vilkul: Floods combating is under control

Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul held the meeting of interagency operational headquarters for the coordination of actions of the central and the local authorities in case of floods and ice clearance in 2013, ForUm reports referring to the Cabinet’s press office.
The interagency operational headquarters, headed by vice Prime Minister, includes: leadership of the State Emergency Service, the Defense Ministry, the Regional Development, Construction and Housing Ministry, the Infrastructure Ministry, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry, the Healthcare Ministry, the State Agency for Water Resources, the «Ukravtodor» State Road Agency, the State Agency for Fisheries, the Natural Resources Ministry, the Economic Development Ministry, the Finance Ministry.
According to head of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida, this year the snow reserves in the territory of Ukraine are below the average level, the same situation is in the adjacent regions of Russia and Belarus. Current water content and water reserves in the soil are within the normal range. «We do not expect high water this year,» Kulbida said.
Head of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center also confirmed the forecast for absence of significant floods in the Carpathians in spring. More than six hundred meteorological posts and stations are involved in monitoring the situation.
Vice Prime Minister instructed the heads of the relevant agencies permanently keep engineering, special and motor vehicles, mobile pumps, self-contained electrical power sources and water craft fully operational, as they are to be used to combat possible flooding.
Oleksandr Vilkul also instructed staff members to coordinate their work in certain fields together with the relevant structures of neighboring countries.
