UN: Conflicts and climate change challenge sustainable development effort

Although more people are leading better lives than a decade ago, persistent poverty and hunger, as well as rapid urbanization, are challenging global efforts to create a more just and equitable world, UN Radio says referring to the UNThe Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018.
It is to be admitted, the Report is a study providing a snapshot of progress towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by world leaders nearly three years ago.
While commenting on the Report, speaking within UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said only 12 years are left to the 2030 deadline, and so the governments must act more urgently.
As to the Report, within the recent years, conflicts and climate change were major contributing factors to boosted hunger and forced displacement (among other challenges) worldwide.
For the first time within 10 years, the number who are not getting enough to eat is trending upwards, and there are now approximately 38 million more hungry people within the world: rising from 777 million within 2015, up to 815 million a year later.
Besides, the Report admits the conflicts are now one of the main drivers of food insecurity within nearly 20 countries.
The Report also points out some good news, such as the significant decline of the number of people living on less than two dollars a day.
That number fell from 26.9% within 2000, down to 9.2% within 2017.
However, the Report admits that the dark spots still remain: thus, now 2.3 milliard people so far lack basic sanitation.
Besides, there were 210 million cases of malaria within 2013, but this number jumped to 216 million just three years later.
