Ukrainian cultivated berries export up 19 times over past 4 years

26.03.2018 18:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of last week, while speaking within the Global Berry Congress in Rotterdam, Andriy Yarmak, FAO Investment Department expert, said Ukraine boosted its export of cultivated berries by 19 times over the past 4 years, with fresh berries export grown by 17 times, Ukrinform says referring to the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) report. «Within 2017, Ukraine exported 34,500 tonnes of fresh and frozen soft berries, while within 2018, the export is expected to reach about 40,000 tonnes. The total value of this volume is low and makes up about US$66 million,» said the expert. As to the report, the Ukrainian 2017 output of soft berries amounted to 120,000 tonnes. The share of strawberries is the largest (55,000 tonnes), followed by raspberries (34,000 tonnes), currant (27,000 tonnes), and blueberries and bilberries (5,000 tonnes). As to the expert, the raspberries output boosted significantly from 7% within 2014 to 29% within 2017 (up over 4 times).
