Parental leave is smart for economy and helps change mentalities
09.10.2017 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
Unequal pay and lack of paid parental leave holds women back within the world of work.
Thats the economic reality underpinning a meeting organized by UN Women and the Nordic Council of Ministers at the UN Headquarters last week, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Kristin Skogen Lund, Director General of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (who was one of the meeting participants) sais Norway began offering paid parental leave to mothers for a full year within the 1980s, and fathers are entitled to 14 weeks.
As to her, in Norway, the gradual economic strengthening is also impacting «childrens social norms because they grow up with both parents being more equal caretakers».
As to Lund, the parental leave policies have made a positive influence upon the Norwegian economy.
