Poroshenko: We must facilitate and support ecotourism development
02.10.2017 10:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of last week, while on a working visit to Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko took part within the meeting on forestry reform and improvement of State environmental policy, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, the President said the State environmental services and local authorities should support and promote not only the preservation of forests, national parks, but also the development of ecological tourism.
«Typically, the territories where the vast majority of national parks are established are depressed. Employment in those areas is extremely low. And in such circumstances, I believe that instead of trying to cut down the forest, taking part of the reserve and leaving a desert, we must help organize ecological tourism. It also creates jobs,» Poroshenko emphasized.
As to the report, the President noted that he was ready to support a special program, if necessary, for the development of the abovementioned sector. «If we need a national program of ecotourism, I am waiting for the proposals. We can resolve this issue quickly at both governmental and legislative levels,» he said.
As to Poroshenko, it is expedient for Ukraine to study foreign experience of the organization of national parks that generate a large-scale tourist flow and have a positive influence on the development of adjacent territories and the filling of local budgets.
Also, Poroshenko emphasized that the development of natural reserves is one of the priorities of the State policy within the field of environmental protection.
