Poroshenko: State authorities will struggle against corruption jointly

As of today, while on a working visit to the Odessa region, the Ukrainian
President Petro Poroshenko has held in Odessa a broadened meeting with Heads of Regional State Administrations and Kyiv City State Administration with participation of the board of central government and law enforcement bodies, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to the report, while speaking at the meeting, the President
emphasized that the key task for all government officials is to combat corruption.
As to the report, the President said that every RSA Head has its own style of combatting corruption and the purpose of today’s meeting is to exchange experience.
«One cannot sit and wait that some people from Kyiv will struggle against corruption. It is our common and fierce struggle,» Poroshenko said.
He added that prosecutors, police officers and officials of the Security Service will facilitate this process. Every single official who obstructs this process will be fired. «State authorities must jointly demonstrate success in combating corruption and ensuring state security,» the President noted.
Besides, the Head of State also emphasized that the Parliament should eliminate the opportunity for the suspects of corruption to be released on bail.
«Once again, I call on people’s deputies: please, make amendments to the legislation and deprive corrupt officials of the opportunity to be released on bail,» Poroshenko said.
As to the report, the President urged RSA Heads to involve the public in this struggle.
«Do not be afraid to name corrupt officials in public. Tell their surnames and posts, tell their crimes. Corrupt officials must be responsible not only to the law, but also to the public,» the Head of State said.
He emphasized that public trust can be gained only with transparent actions.
As to the report, the President plans to sign Law «On Police» shortly.
«In order to prevent simultaneous functioning of police and militia, please determine the final term. In 2–3 months everyone should switch to the police system. It concerns not only patrol police, but also all law enforcement structures, from district investigators to notorious „Berkut» and „Sokol" that will be replaced with SWAT. It will have a different organizational system, training, weapons, uniform and, I hope, positive history," the President said.
