Posts expect to deliver over 7 million letters to Santa Claus

25.12.2014 10:27 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — The posts around the world are expecting to receive more than 7 million letters to Santa this year, UN Radio says referring to the United Nations postal agency (UPU) report. As to the report, Canada, where Santa’s postal helpers replied to more than 1.4 million letters in 2013, is expecting the number to increase. Meanwhile, La Poste France says it received a record 1,220,000 letters last year and the expectations remain just as high for 2014. Besides, other countries where letter volumes are constantly high include the United States and Germany. It is to be admitted, the letters to Santa are often the first letters written by children expressing their Christmas wishes. The UPU says that in many cases the letters are addressed to imaginary places such as «Santa’s cloud» «Cold land» or «Star Avenue». As to the report, the posts worldwide use this time of the year to inform children about the importance of properly addressing letters to their favourite holiday figure. It is to be admitted, Santa Claus has his own special stamp in Finland this year, while the Hellenic Post in Greece will circulate musical Christmas stamps.
