Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts 2006 some regions fruits/grapes crop losses

Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts this year Ukrainian fruits/grapes crop will significantly decline or even be totally lost in some regions, reported Ministry of Agrarian Policy referring to Oleksandr Baranivskiy, Minister of Agrarian Policy, Mar 31 selector meeting declaration.
As to Baranivskiy, this year grapes/fruits (esp. stone-fruits) crop considerable shortage is to be expected.
«In near Carpathians/Dniestr areas as well as western forest-steppe zone, stone-fruits crop losses are possible to reach: peaches — up to 50 %, plums/cherry plums — 3–5 %. In Donbass area all kinds stone-fruits crop losses are possible to hit 70–100%. In steppe zone… plums — 10–25%, sweet cherries — 30–40 %, apricots — 70–90 %, peaches — up to 100 %. In Crimea… peaches, apricots and cherry plums — full loss; sweet cherries — 10–90 %, plums — 50–100 %, cherries — 30–40%,» stated Baranivskiy.
Minister made it known on Kherson region, Myckolayiv region and Odessa region vines (technical/all main table varieties) buds destruction is 70–100 %; in AR of the Crimea grapes future crop is considerably damaged (esp. in near Sevastopol areas).
He added more precise forecasts will be possible to be given in Apr.
As earlier reported, Feb 8 Sevastopol City State Administrations had declared 7 biggest city wine-growing companies 80% future grapes crop had been destroyed due to Jan frosts.
