Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania have held Seventh session of Council of Presidents

The Seventh session of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania was held in the course of the working visit of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė to Ukraine on November 24, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
As to report, Petro Poroshenko called the visit of Dalia Grybauskaitė symbolic, for Ukraine had celebrated the anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity a few days ago. The President reminded that Ukrainians had come to the protest rally in November 2013 after the former authorities had refused to sign the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. «You’ve been assisting us on our European path and facilitated the signature of the Association Agreement,» Petro Poroshenko said.
The Head of State emphasized the importance of fighting against corruption and rapid reformation of the country for Ukraine to proceed on its European path. He informed that several days ago, the coalition agreement had been initialed and it included the anti-corruption program as well. «The program of reforms of the Government should be based on the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU,» Petro Poroshenko stated.
President Poroshenko expressed gratitude to Lithuania for the support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
In her turn, Dalia Grybauskaitė noted that Ukraine was going through a difficult period in its history. «I hope that the people of Ukraine will manage to build a democratic state with European values and independence,» she emphasized. The President of Lithuania stated: «We will always support the people of Ukraine and its decisions».
Within the meeting the parties have discussed cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania in the process of Ukraine’s European integration, bilateral cooperation in the international organizations such as the UN, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and NATO, interaction in the sphere of security and defense, cyber and information security and military-technical cooperation. Particular attention has been paid to the issues of energy security and cooperation in the sphere of energy supply and energy efficiency.
Reportedly, following the meeting, the parties have signed the Road Map of Strategic Partnership Development between the two states for 2015–2016 and the protocol of the 7th session of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania.
