Azarov: It is time to set "Ukrainian platform" of digital industry

31.10.2013 09:15 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — It’s time to put a question about additional effective incentives for strategic project of integration of Ukrainian IT into the digital market of European Union. This was stated by the Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov at the Cabinet meeting held October 30, 2013, Government Portal reports. PM noted that rapid development of information technology (IT) in the world is the logical consequence of the globalization of the world economy and the determinant of economic growth. That’s why many developed countries so many invest in IT technology. At the last meeting of the European Council in Brussels on 24–25 October, it was emphasized that a strong digital economy is vital for the growth and competitiveness of the European Union in a globalized world. The European Union debates on how to provide additional impetus for the industry of digital products and services. It has been recognized the urgent need for a comprehensive and unified digital telecommunications market of the EU. That is way the European Council stressed the importance of investing in the digital economy, in the introduction of new technologies and the infrastructure (4G, high-speed broadband connection, processing of large data sets, etc.). A special emphasis was paid on the need to examine the possibility of establishing special favorable conditions in the area of taxation. «The work on the EU digital technologies market that dynamically upgrading is not a dream, but the closest prospect for Ukrainian companies,» Mykola Azarov emphasized. Thus he stressed that the Ukrainian IT-industry even now has some leadership positions in the world, and even greater potential. And «perhaps we are ahead of the EU countries on establishing incentive for the digital technology». «We must realize that leadership is not an undeniable fact, but a constant proactive work. Therefore, I’m convinced that today it is not already enough of the success of some Ukrainian companies and projects. This success is easily absorbed by consolidated European market. I think it’s time to set additional effective incentives to create, so to speak Ukrainian platform of digital industry: market platform that will combines the unique trade suggestions of Ukrainian commodity producers, advanced development, competitive ideas, best practice of management of digital technology,» Mykola Azarov said. According to the Prime Minister to realize this is a very difficult task, it is necessary to consult with market participants, talented organizer of a business and scientists, prospective partners abroad. «I think a good start of this process was laid yesterday at the International Scientific Forum Information Society in Ukraine that was opened in Kyiv,» Mykola Azarov noted. The Head of the Government instructed the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the State Agency on Science, Innovations and Informatization of Ukraine involving participants of IT technologies to begin developing a strategic project of integration of digital technologies into the market of the European Union and submit it to the Government by the end of this year.
