Belarus working on AIDS cure

11.04.2014 12:36 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Belarusian scientists are working on a cure for AIDS, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus Alexander Shumilin said during an Internet video-briefing on the website of the National Press Center, Belarus Radio reports. «Earlier, our scientists had mastered math modeling of a formula of chemical compounds that will be used to develop new drugs. Now scientists are about to start modeling immune drugs to treat one of the types of HIV infection. This will be a springboard for synthesizing a cure for AIDS,» Shumilin added. Speaking about most promising solutions, he noted that genetic engineering and medicine are making a remarkably rapid progress in Belarus. Scientists have come up with technologies to deliver medication to cells. «A chemical substance is implanted into DNA as nucleic acid and is delivered into a cell. This is not done anywhere else in the world. By opting for this kind of drug administration, a patient will need a smaller amount of this drug. Another advantage of this solution is the absence of side effects,» Shumilin said.
