Ukraine is intensifying cooperation with Greece

This was discussed on September 19 during a meeting of Mykola Azarov with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece Vassilis Papadopoulos, Mykola Azarov Official Website reports.
«We are now preparing for the sixth meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Greek working group on economic issues and scientific cooperation, which is to be held in Kyiv, — Prime Minister said. — We will be very pleased to meet your delegation. And during this meeting we could discuss practical arrangements that will accelerate our partnership».
Head of the Government noted that cooperation in the cultural ad humanitarian sphere was also possible among the states, as Ukraine was a home to a large Greek diaspora. In this context, he instructed the Ukrainian Ministry of Transport to consider the introduction of direct air service from Donetsk to Athens. The sides also discussed cooperation in tourism sphere, as last year the number of Ukrainian tourists, who visited Greece increased by 100 %.
In addition, Mykola Azarov said at the meeting that Ukraine was then preparing to sign an Association and Free Trade Area agreement with the European Union. «I am pleased to note that Greece has consistently supported the process of European integration of Ukraine — Prime Minister said. — Therefore I would like to express our gratitude to the Government of Greece for such a position.»
In turn, the Ambassador informed that from 1 January 2014 Greece would hold the EU Presidency and promised all the necessary assistance to Ukraine in its European integration aspirations.
