Ukrainian Grain Market

AGRO PERSPECTIVE «Ukrainian Grain & Oilseed Market » Nov 26-Dec 2, 2010`47`(301)

Within reporting week food grains market situation remained actually same as within previous week: there was no flour-quality wheat export, so market was dominated, as earlier, by processors.
As it seems, within this week low market demand should have stimulated high-quality grains prices fall, — but, in fact, 3 and 2 classes food wheat prices remained high mainly due to agrarians low offers number. In meanwhile, agrarians are going to withhold their grains reserves until spring as they don’t need replenishing their circulating assets.
As of this week, feed barley market also remained dead: no company was interested in feed barley purchases. There was just small number processors which continued purchasing feed barley on domestic elevators; however, their purchase prices remained rather low against prices potentially possible under free export conditions. Traders tried to purchase feed barley at maximally “safe” prices in order to evade losses under any possible conditions.
Within reporting week feed maize market trade remained as slack as of other grains; there was no talk about any trade activity, as sale/purchase operations number was very low.  Experts say feed maize market is quite possible to get strengthened in prospect. As to experts, prices strengthening is to be expected since early new year, — as maize export limitations will be, most likely, cancelled since new year beginning.

Processors Activity

Within reporting week some flour millers were obliged to reduce their grains purchasing rates as agrarians had slackened grains offer in several regions. It is to be admitted, within this week agricultural producers abstained from grains big lots sales, preferring to sell just small lots. Experts admit agrarians low activity is due to their having accumulated big financial means, so they are able now to abstain from selling their grains reserves until spring. Experts say within next year spring/summer wheat purchase prices will, most probably, resume growing due to market demand activation.
Within this week main leguminous crops purchase prices remained, upon whole, unchanged against previous week, though growth tendency had already appeared in several regions (for instance, Kharkiv region and Sumy region). Most regions leguminous crops purchase prices have been remaining stable within last 2 months; experts say prices aren’t expected to significantly change until new year beginning.
