09.01.2014 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of January 8, more than 500 students and 50 teachers from around the world gathered at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland for a three-day conference to discuss climate-related issues, UN Radio reports.
The Model United Nations Conference is being hosted in conjunction with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
In welcoming participants, the ITU’s Doreeen Bogdan reminded about a youth conference that was held in Costa Rica in September last year.
«What we did at that summit was we developed a declaration that was done by the youth, for the youth and that declaration was actually delivered to the UN Secretary-General and to the President of the General Assembly, and we believe that because you have chosen such a timely topic this time, the topic of climate change, we believe that the outcome of your work this week will also get some attention within the UN,» Mr. Bogdan admitted.
The Model United Nations Conference is a worldwide programme in which high school students discuss global issues while playing the role of diplomats and UN officials.
