06.12.2013 14:16 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
"UNESCO has decided to include Petrykivka painting into the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. For the first time in its history, Ukraine has won such honorary status. We are proud that our national cultural treasure is recognized around the world," Government Portal reports referring to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Olexandr Vilkul.
This important for Ukraine decision was taken during the 8th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO, which takes place in Baku (Azerbaijan Republic). 600 experts from 95 countries attended the 8-th session.
«Petrykivka is a national brand of Ukraine. Petrykivka is a soul of Ukraine, it remains a glorious Cossack past, which naturally complements the priceless cultural heritage of humanity. Providing Petrykivka painting of the status of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity is a historical event for our country. It is a powerful impetus to improve international image of Ukraine in the world as a modern center of unique original art, said Olexandr Vilkul. I personally thank the Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara and Culture Minister Leonid Novokhatko for strong support that they have given us.»
Minister of Culture of Ukraine Leonid Novokhatko said that Petrykivka painting is the first Ukrainian object that is included into the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the work in this direction continues.
