Boiko: Ukraine wants to participate in TANAP project
16.11.2012 16:12 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
"Ukraine is in talks with the partners on its possible participation in the TANAÐ project and we have convincing arguments, since practically the entire infrastructure from Turkey to our border is already in place. Besides, Ukraine has large-capacity underground gasholders near the EU border. They could make a good basis for the future gas pipeline," Boiko said. Last year Azerbaijan and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding on founding a consortium for the construction of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline. The 2000-km pipeline is supposed to run from Azerbaijan via Georgia to Turkey and further to EU countries. The construction costs are estimated at between 5 billion and 6 billion dollars. At the initial stage, its annual capacity is planned to reach 16 billion cu m, 6 billion of which will be used by Turkish consumers and the rest will be supplied to EU countries. At the second stage, gas supplies are planned to increase up to 24 billion cu m. The consortium plans to commission the gas pipeline in 2017, when extraction starts in the Shah-Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan.
