Ukrainian Government cares about the protection of rare species of animals and plants
08.11.2012 16:58 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
On November 7, 2012, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers adopted the resolution «On the levying compensation for unlawful hunting, killing or damage of species of flora and fauna listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, as well as for destruction or deterioration their habitats (growth).» This document was presented by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Eduard Stavytskyi at a Cabinet meeting, Government Portal reports.
The purpose of this resolution is to establish the rate of compensation for unlawful hunting of animals and plants, species of which are additionally included in the third edition of the Red Book in 2009 (445 species).
The existing compensation rates were significantly lower against those specified, particularly for hunting animals. This situation makes objects of Red Book less protected against the widespread species of flora and fauna. The last compensation rates have been re-counted in 1993. In the adopted act, according to expert conclusions of research institutions and including inflation processes, the compensation rates have been increased 10 times in an average for species of animals and plants. Instead, for the most vulnerable and commercially important species, compensation rates have been increased 40 or more times. First of all it concerns the dolphins, bison, birds of prey and sturgeon fish.
