Ukraine. Grain crop has decreased by 2.3% down to 38.8 Mln.MT in 2002
10 January 2003 "AGROPERSPECTIVA" (Kyiv) - Agrarians produced 38.792 Mln.MT of grain in 2002, that is less by 2.3% or 0.914 Mln.MT than in 2001. First of all, the volume of production of grain was reduced at the expense of the reduction of the wheat crop by 3.7% or 0.799 Mln.MT down to 20.549 Mln.MT. Thus the crop of corn increased by 14.6% or 0.531 Mln.MT up to 4.1719 Mln.MT in comparison with 2001. The crop of barley has increased by 1.7% or 0.172 Mln.MT up to 10.358 Mln.MT in comparison with 2001. Production of rye, oat, millet and buckwheat decreased. The average grain reached 2.72 MT/Ha in 2002 in comparison with 2.71 MT/Ha in 2001.Agrarians harvested 14 245.9 Ths.Ha, that is less by 2.8% or 408.6 Ths.Ha than in 2001, when agrarians cleaned harvested 14 654.45 Ths.Ha. The experts of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy notice, that agricultural producers harvested mainly food grain in 2002.
