Kharkiv region farmers harvest 1 million tons of wheat 2007

By July 22, Kharkiv region farmers have harvested over 1 million tons of wheat, press service of the Kharkiv regional state administration quotes deputy head of the administration Viktor Zverev as saying. According to Zverev, wheat harvest in the region is the best in the country. “Zaporizhia follows us with 954,000 tons of wheat. They, however, have completed harvesting, but we have 7-8% more to harvest,” Zverev boast. According to the press service, head of the regional agrarian department Mykhailo Zhornyk states that farmers of the Kharkiv region have harvested 1.2 million tons of early grain crops and leguminous by July 22. Farmers have cleaned 493,000 ha or 64% with average yield constituting 25.3 metric centners/ha. As to Agro Perspectiva earlier report, by July 20 early grain crops and leguminous harvested by farmers of the Kharkiv region comprised 1,087,000 tons. According to the State’s Statistic Committee, last year farmers of the region harvested 814,300 tons of wheat (winter and spring) from 372,300 ha; 628,200 tons of barley (winter and spring) from 345,900 ha.
